Michael Young represents families across California whose loved ones were neglected or abused in a nursing home. He has been a member of the California Bar for more than 25 years, and he came to this work from the other side of the courtroom: for seven years, defending nursing homes and their insurers was his job.

Seven years inside the defense

Michael joined Elliot Snyder & Reid, a Redlands defense firm, in 1998 as an intern, and became an associate attorney when he was admitted to the California Bar in December 1999. He stayed until 2005. The firm's clients were the facilities and the insurance companies that stood behind them, and Michael's work was defending them: nursing home and medical malpractice cases, from the first claim call through depositions, motions, and trial preparation. His partner, Thomas Wallin, worked those same defense cases at the same firm, and the two of them learned the defense playbook the only way it can really be learned, by running it.

That experience is exactly what he uses against facilities now.
